As the holiday season approaches, people are rushing to buy flowers and make dinner plans. Grocery stores are also full of pink and red items. It is now Valentine's Day. Whether you're dating or not, don't forget about your pets on Valentine's Day—they're your true love! We need to give our pets the love they deserve because they are the best company.
Here are some ways to make Valentine’s Day special for your pet friends.
Host a Party
Have a party for Valentine's Day with your friends and their pets. There's no better way to show your pet love than with friends who also love pets.
Don't be afraid to decorate in a big way. Create a lively picture backdrop. Give toys and treats for party gifts. There are tons of options.
Before booking a playdate, talk to your friends to make sure their pets are well-socialized. If your pets haven’t played together before, maybe present them in a neutral setting first before introducing them to one another’s area. Some dogs can become protective of food or toys, so remove triggers from the play area to avoid possible fights.
Treat Them to Pet-Safe Treats
For people, Valentine’s Day is all about the chocolate and wine, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave your pets out! Spoil your dogs by making or getting special treats. As always, make sure the treats are safe for pets. Contact your vet if you are not sure about what your pet can and can't eat.
Do Some of Your Favorite Activities Together
Your pet might not know that it’s a holiday, but you can make sure they have an extra-special day by doing some of your favorite activities together, such as visiting a park or playing fetch.
If your dog likes a long walk over the normal stroll around the block, make a day of it and take them on an adventure. If you’re in a relationship, this can be a fun, outdoorsy Valentine’s game for your partner as well.
Buy Them a Special New Toy
Another way to show your pet some love is with a new toy. A lot of pet shops sell holiday-themed toys. You could also get your pet a bright new scarf, bowtie, or T-shirt. What’s cuter than a puppy covered in hearts? Not much.
Write a Love Poem About Your Pet
If you’re feeling romantic and need an outlet for all your lovey thoughts and feelings, write a love song about your pet. If you need some inspiration…
Roses are red, violets are blue, I feed you dinner, and I scoop your poo.
Your breath kind of stinks, but you’re all mine, so I’ll take all your messy kisses, my sweet Valentine.
